North American Rock Gardeners

My recent presentation to forty members and guests of the North American Rock Gardener’s society at Cornell University was on the theme of “Nature as seen through the eyes of Art”. Basic, three- dimensional forms can be identified as expressions of nature. From the spheroid shape of the full moon overhead to the cylindrical voids of water-carved potholes underfoot, we are circled by circles. The same two elements, vegetation and stone, can be juxtaposed in opposite fashion depending on their natural order in the landscape.  Both artists and nature are bound by rules of physics but within those bounds express themselves in myriad ways.
