Yesterday was the start of construction on a dry stone walling display for the 2011 Vermont Flower Show. A traditional Buddhist “stupa” shape was chosen to highlight coursed, right angle, and round building techniques. A group of dry stone wallers from Vermont, New Hampshire and England have volunteered their time to the project. The square-cornered portion of the stupa has been completed. Today the round elements will top it off. Pictured during the day’s activities are myself, Charley, Jamie, Jared, Joshuah and Matt. The Flower Show opens Friday for the three day event.
Wish I was there building with you!
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteWe could have used your expertise in carving the topknot stone. A naturally shaped cobble wound up being the finishing touch. Photo to follow.
